With only six other Region 4 schools opting to play basketball this season, the early schedule for the Triton College women's basketball team is one of the most difficult in the nation with three nationally ranked opponents and five of the first six games on the road with shortest trip being at South Suburban College.
The Trojans after a tough 0-4 road swing returned home Feb. 9 to face another ranked opponent, No. 9 in NJCAA Division II Lincoln Land Community College. Triton hung tough with the Loggers, but could not get the key defensive stops when needed in the fourth quarter of a 79-71 loss.
The Trojans had their best shooting of the season from three-point distance making 11-of-22 from beyond the arc. Lincoln Land led the entire night but could not put Triton away until the late in the final period. The Trojans rallied from as many as 16 points down to pull within four points on several occasions but the Loggers did enough late to end the Triton comeback bid.
Monraia Wilson led the Trojans with 20 points on 8-of-14 shooting from the field.
Mariah Henry was presence on both sides of the floor with 18 points, six assists, five rebounds and three steals.
Linarys Burnett-Romero had her best offensive showing of the season with 12 points on four three-point field goals.
