There is still plenty to accomplish this season for the Triton College women's soccer team. However, the Trojans checked off the first goal from their list in picking up their school record seventh win of the season, a 7-2 triumph over Prairie State College Oct. 16 in Chicago Heights.
The final score matches the Trojans overall record, as Triton is one win away from securing the first winning season since the start of the program in 2006.
"This is a massive accomplishment not only for this year but for the future years," said assistant coach
Maciej Orlowski. "This is not the first and most likely not the last record we will break this year knowing how excellent a group we have. We have been trying to build this program for the past four years and it looks like this year is the definition of talent, determination, and teamwork we've been looking for. Everyone wants to be part of a winning program and we finally got it right."
America Calvario made history herself. The freshman scored four goals along with two assists to increase her team leading point total to 32. Calvario, ranked 25
th in the country broke the single-season individual mark of 31 points previously held by both Natalia Naumoff (2009) and Magdalena Adame (2016).
"This season we scouted and signed three talented players from Pritzker College Prep," Orlowski said. "All three of them are outstanding athletes. Two of them
Adrienie Carnejo and
Joanna Bahena are defensive players who help build-up from the back and America is the offensive player who changes every shot into goal. She's been clinical with finishing and her four-goal performance is one of many great accomplishments and records for our program."
Â
Grace Larson had a goal and assist in the victory. The Riverside-Brookfield graduate is currently 13
th in the nation with 10 assists.
Keiley Castellanos also registered a goal and an assist for the Trojans.
Arly Castellanos scored her first goal of the season.
The Trojans look to keep the winning going with the Region 4 tournament approaching.
"Even though this is one of the first successful years for our women program, we have high expectations for this year's playoffs," Orlowski said. "We are looking for one of the top seeds to host a playoff game. The main goal for us is to keep everyone healthy and prepared physically and mentally for the playoffs. Games like South Suburban and Waubonsee are the ones we are looking for in the playoffs and we proved that we can compete against the best in the country."
