Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Sliwa Honored as Trojans Rout Illinois Valley

Triton College men's head soccer coach Piotr Sliwa was honored Sept. 18 during a pregame ceremony for becoming the winningest coach in program history. Triton's President Mary-Rita Moore along with Athletic Director Harry McGinnis presented Sliwa with a plaque in recognition of the achievement.

The Trojans responded to the festivities with a six-goal outburst in the first half in a 7-0 win over Illinois Valley Community College at the East Campus Athletic Complex multi-purpose field.

"We are very proud of Piotr's accomplishments and the impact that he's had on our student-athletes," President Moore said. "Triton has had a rich soccer tradition since 1969, and he will always be a part of Trojans soccer and athletic history."

"I am so proud of Piotr and our men's soccer programs for achieving their 90th win under his leadership," McGinnis said. "There have been several great coaches over the years of our men's soccer program, but Piotr is the only one to reach this milestone. We are very fortunate to have Piotr directing our program and I look forward to more great things from him and our men's soccer program this year and for years to come."

Sliwa broke the wins record ironically on the road in a 2-0 Trojans win at Illinois Valley Sept. 6. However, the rematch was no contest as Triton (8-1) dominated from start to finish as they outshot the Eagles 26-4.

Mateusz Makowiec (East Leyden) got the scoring started off an assist from Marcin Kieta (Lane Tech) in the seventh minute. Michal Szaflarski (Oak Lawn) would score eight minutes later aided by an assist from Evan Cole (Proviso West) to make it 2-0.
Jakub Knurek (York) then followed with consecutive tallies with assists from Alex Forman (Highland Park) and Gabriel Pulido (Soto Academy). Then the Trojans closed the half with a pair a late goals within a minute span by Christopher Modzejewski (St. Patrick) and Gabriel Brophy (Riverside-Brookfield) to build an insurmountable 6-0 lead.

Keita had the lone Triton goal in the second half in the 57th minute off a misplay from the IVCC goalie.

Goalie Piotr Pyz (Conant) earned his fifth straight shutout, recording three saves.
