Trojans Share the Wealth at Kankakee

When the Triton College men's basketball team can move the ball the way they did Dec. 2 at Kankakee Community College, they are simply unstoppable. The Trojans dished out 22 assists of their 31 total field goals made in cruising to an 84-64 win.

Triton, now 7-1 is slowing creeping closer to their first ever top 25 ranking since moving up to NJCAA Division I status a year ago, receiving the fourth most votes of schools not ranked in the poll which was released prior to the contest at Kankakee.

The Trojans pulled away from the Cavaliers (7-3) the final six minutes of the first half with a 21-9 run to go into halftime with a 46-27 advantage.

Triton at one point led by as many as 31 points in the second half.

David Swedura (Prospect) was the high-man for the Trojans with 21 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the field. Austin Richie (Bloom) was tough for Kankakee to contain in tallying 16 points. Proviso East graduate Quinlan Bennett had a solid all-around game with 13 points, seven rebounds and three assists.

Triton center Jalen Shaw played a big role in the Trojans sharing the ball, registering six assists as found he several open teammates when Kankakee's defense collapsed on him. Shaw was also in double-figures with 14 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the field.

For the game, Triton shot 50 percent from the field (31-62).

Another positive out of the evening for the Trojans is that they are almost back to full-strength. Dannie Smith (Orr) saw his first action since an injury he had when Triton played in Georgia on Nov. 16. In addition, James Jordan (Detroit, MI) who has the potential to be a force on both ends of the floor made his Trojans debut with six points and four rebounds.
