The Triton College softball team recently took time away from their preseason workouts to volunteer at a food packing event for the Christian nonprofit organization Feed My Starving Children (FMSC).
FMSC is dedicated to seeing every child whole in body and spirit. FMSC works with food distribution partners that stay with communities for the long haul, empowering them to move from relief to development.
FMSC meals are developed by food science and nutrition professionals to supplement nutritional needs and reduce problems with malnutrition. Nutrition allows children to grow, thrive and develop to their full potential.
The organization has three Chicago area packing centers including their Schaumburg facility that the team visited. During the packing event the Trojans volunteered for, 154 boxes were packaged, of that total the team was responsible for 38 of them.
"Our experience with Feed My Starving Children was one that we as a team will never forget," said head coach
Christina Christopher. "It was my first time along with most of my team to work with such an organization. Before entering the packaging facility, we were placed with a country that was listed above our station; the Triton team represented Ghana. "
"During our time in the facility, our team was cheering after each box was filled and excited to provide nutritious meals to children worldwide," Christopher added. "The team had a blast, all excited to be there and volunteered with all aspects of the packaging needs. It was an unforgettable experience, one that I am forever grateful to experience with my softball family."
