Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Fast Start Fuels Triton Win over Elmhurst JV

A bounce-back performance after a pair of close losses was exactly what the Triton College women's basketball team needed. The Trojans had their best first quarter of the young season with a 28-point outburst in cruising to a 79-56 victory over the junior varsity team from Elmhurst College Nov. 12 at the Collins Center.

Slow starts hurt the Trojans (2-2) against Lake Land College and Concordia University-Chicago JV. Triton ended up losing both games by a combined total of eight points. Against the Bluejays, the Trojans ran their offense much better and enjoyed a 28-16 lead after one quarter. Triton never trailed in the game.

Transfer Bethany Baldwin showed why she was one of the top junior college scorers in the nation a year ago with her best offensive perfromance wearing a Trojans uniform. The sophomore from Watersmeet, Mich. scored a game-high 29 points on 12-for-18 shooting from the field along with eight steals.

Guard Davion Watt (Independence, Miss.) did not miss a single shot in posting 17 points. Watt made all five of her field goal attempts including three from beyond the arc.

Jaelah Crosby (Evansville, Ind.) finished with 15 points and six assists. Dajha Cooper added 14 points and six rebounds.

Triton outrebounded the Bluejays 48-33 and forced 26 Elmhurst turnovers which led to a number of transition baskets.

The Trojans will head on the road for the next two games beginning Nov.14 when they travel to Plymouth, Ind. for their first ever meeting with Ancilla College.
