Triton College men's basketball coach
Steve Christiansen has reached another milestone in his impressive 16 year tenure in River Grove. Christiansen earned his 400
th career coaching victory, an 83-63 Trojans win over Sauk Valley Community College Nov. 7 at the Collins Center.
Â
The win mark adds to Christiansen's Triton resume that includes: five seasons of at least 30 victories, 10 North Central Community College Conference (N4C) championships, five NJCAA Region IV championships and the 2018 NJCAA Division II national title.
Â
"When you reach a milestone you have the opportunity to reflect and with each of mine I am overcome with feelings of appreciation and gratitude for all the efforts from the players, coaches, leaders and many others who have helped me during our climb," said Christiansen.
Â
"I'll share my favorite quote, 'In the end, what matters isn't how long we've lived but how fully we've lived. The good we've done, the friends we've made, the love we shared along the way. It's the journey...remember that.' I have enjoyed every moment of ours tremendously and with the direction in which our administration has us pointed in, we are very hungry for more."
Â
In the win over the Sky Hawks, Triton (3-0) led from start to finish, enjoying an advantage as large as 27 points early in the second half.
Â
Carlos Curtis was one of three Trojans with at least 20 points. The sophomore from Milwaukee had 21 points, 12 rebounds and six assists. Sophomore center
Jalen Shaw (Elgin) also scored 21 points along with eight rebounds and six blocks. Freshman
Dannie Smith (Orr) finished with 20 points.
Â
Triton received votes in the NJCAA Division I poll released Nov. 11. The Trojans have a great opportunity to crack the top 25 if they can keep the winning going when they travel to Atlanta this weekend. Triton will compete in the Pete Arrington Classic and will play No. 3 ranked Florida SouthWestern State College Friday and tournament host South Georgia Technical College on Saturday.
