The Triton College women's basketball team are playing shorthanded the next couple of weeks. However, the seven players the Lady Trojans have suited up are holding down the fort so far with a pair of impressive wins to open North Central Community College Conference (N4C) play. After defeating College of DuPage 60-28 in River Grove on Jan.3, Triton followed with another solid showing as they easily defeated Harper College 60-26 Jan. 5 in Palatine.
The Lady Trojans improve to 10-7, registering double-digit wins for the fourth consecutive season after failing to win at least 10 games in each of the previous 11 seasons.
Triton controlled the game versus Harper from the start as two three-pointers to open matters from sophomore guard
Artasia Gusman gave the Lady Trojans a quick 6-0 lead and they never looked back. Triton led 17-8 after the first quarter and 35-18 at halftime.
Gusman who finished the game 5-of-7 from long range paced Triton with 17 points.
Rocio Lopez drained three from downtown and ended up with 11 points.
The Lady Trojans put together another outstanding defensive effort as they held the Hawks to 18 percent shooting from the field (10-53) and forced 24 turnovers.
In the win over College of DuPage, Lopez led all scorers with 13 points. Gusman added 11 points.
Kolbi Powell had nine points and 11 rebounds.
Jazz-Minn Arceneaux scored nine points along with eight rebounds.
Yasmin Muhammad finished with seven points and 11 rebounds.
Similar to Harper, Triton held the Chaparrals to 18 percent shooting from the field (11-60) and only allowed DuPage to score one point in the third quarter,
