The Triton College women's basketball team has saved their best for the last quarter all season. Saturday at the Collins Center against North Central Community College Conference (N4C) foe Madison College proved no different. The Lady Trojans played stifling defense to outscore the WolfPack 16-3 the final stanza in a 56-45 win. In 21 games played this season, Triton has outscored their opponents in the fourth quarter 17 times.
The Lady Trojans upped their mark to 13-8 overall, 5-1 in the N4C, one half-game behind first place Rock Valley College who had their game Saturday at Harper College postponed due to weather.
Triton trailed Madison 25-24 at halftime. Then the WolfPack (12-6, 2-3) opened the second half on a 15-6 run to build a 40-30 advantage with 5:47 remaining in the third quarter. However, from that point on, the Lady Trojans half-court trap along with getting Madison's top two scorers to foul out changed the complexion of the contest. Triton outscored the WolfPack 26-5 the rest of the way. Madison shot 2-of-15 from the field as Triton forced 12 turnovers the final quarter and a half. For the game, the WolfPack committed 27 turnovers.
Da'Tasia Almon (Proviso East) led the Lady Trojan scoring with 14 points.
Pamela Colmenares (Leyden) was in double-figures for the third straight game with 13 points.
Jazz-Minn Arceneaux (Bolingbrook) finished with eight points.
Artasia Gusman (Leyden) had six points and five steals.
