Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball Season Ends with Narrow Loss at McHenry

For the third straight season the Triton women's basketball team squared off with McHenry County College to open the NJCAA Region IV Division II Tournament. The Lady Trojans walked away victorious in the previous two meetings including rallying from a 16-point deficit to win in Crystal Lake a year ago. Tuesday night looked to be the same script for Triton who stormed back from a 10-point 3rd quarter hole to grab a six-point lead in the 4th quarter. But this time around, the Lady Trojans were unable to close the deal as missed lay-ups and free throws down the stretch cost Triton dearly in a heartbreaking 55-54 road loss to the Scots.

The Lady Trojans trailed 37-27 early in the 3rd quarter and then put on their best display of basketball all season with a 14-0 run to go up 41-37 midway through the period. Triton pushed the lead to six at 45-39, outscoring the Skyway Conference co-champions 18-6 in the 3rd stanza. However, the Lady Trojans offense went cold with just nine points in the 4th quarter. Several good looks rimmed out, combined with open misses from point-blank range and not making free throws was Triton's undoing. The Lady Trojans went 6-of-15 from the charity stripe, while McHenry was 12-of 16.

Sophomore Andrionna Harper in her final game in a Lady Trojan uniform led all scorers with 22 points, including four from long distance. She also had seven rebounds, four steals and three assists. Harper ends her Triton career with 617 points, 14th most in program history. Yasmin Muhammad was in double-figures with 11 points and 7 rebounds.

The Lady Trojans finished the season 11-20. Despite the ending record, Triton was pretty much in every ballgame this season, losing seven games by single-digits, including a pair in overtime.
