The best first quarter of the season paced the Triton women's basketball team to a dominating 73-33 win over the College of DuPage Saturday at the Collins Center. The Lady Trojans were clicking on all cylinders the opening 10 minutes, building a huge 32-11 lead as all seven Triton players dressed scored in the quarter. The Lady Trojans shot a blistering 13-of-19 from the field with 11 assists. Triton forced seven steals, committed just one turnover and made all eight free throws attempted in a quarter that showed what the Lady Trojans are capable of doing when they play together at a high level.
After Triton had four players reach double-figures in Thursday's 76-40 win at Harper College, five Lady Trojans scored at least 10 points versus the Chaparrals. Sophomore
Andrionna Harper and
Ginani Badillo led Triton with 14 points apiece. Badillo added eight boards. Meanwhile, Harper had seven rebounds, six assists and five steals.
Jasmine Nelson finished with 13 points, eight rebounds and five steals.
Diamond Johnson had 13 points and four steals.
Yasmin Muhammad had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
For the game, the Lady Trojans as a team had 24 assists led by
Artasia Gusman who had seven helpers. Also Triton made 24 steals in the contest en route to forcing 40 DuPage turnovers.
The victory also insured Triton will have a better N4C conference record compared to last season when they ended up 5-9. The Lady Trojans are currently 6-6 in N4C play with two conference games remaining.
