After playing a key role in helping Triton College secure its first national championship in men's basketball program history, Trojans sophomore point guard Alondes Williams has committed to play for the University of Oklahoma next season. Williams made his commitment to the Sooners and coach Lon Kruger official during a signing ceremony at Triton College on Thursday, Nov. 15.
Williams, a 6 foot 5 inch Milwaukee native, averaged 13.8 points and 6.3 rebounds per game during the Trojans' 2017-2018 championship campaign. Through three games this season, Williams is averaging 19 points and 7.7 rebounds per game for Triton.
"Alondes, or 'Man Man' as he is affectionately known, has started his career off at Triton College in unprecedented fashion," said Triton College men's basketball head coach Steve Christiansen. "I am delighted to see him earn such an amazing opportunity at a school as prestigious as the University of Oklahoma. Coach Kruger and staff are getting an incredibly talented basketball player and a quality young man. I am very proud of him and am equally excited to see what his future holds."
Williams is ranked as a 3-star recruit by Rivals.com. At Triton College, his accolades include First Team North Central Community College (N4C) All-Conference and NJCAA All-National Tournament Team selections as well as Region IV Tournament MVP honors.
"We're excited about adding Alondes to our program," said Kruger. "He has a good feel for the game and can play multiple positions. He can score from the perimeter, but his ability to put the ball on the floor and make plays for others is his biggest asset."
Williams will become the second member of Triton's national championship squad to transfer to a Power Five conference school. Former Trojans power forward Courtese Cooper is in the midst of his first season as a member of the Louisiana State University Tigers.
Following their national championship campaign, Coach Christiansen and the Trojans have moved up into the NJCAA Division I ranks. Triton is off to a perfect 3-0 start on the season. They are next in action on Nov. 16 against Three Rivers Community College in Park Hills, Missouri.Â
