Steve Christiansen

Steve Christiansen enters his seventeenth season as Triton head coach. His teams have combined to average over 26 wins per season while compiling an overall record of 423-107. Coach Christiansen has led the Trojans to ten N4C Conference Championships, including a stretch of six straight from 2013-19 along with five Region IV Titles. Under Christiansen, the Trojans won the 2018 NJCAA Division II National Championship (the first in school history) while placing second in the 2016 tournament. During the 2015-16 campaign, the team was ranked number one in the nation for the final seven weeks of the season. In 2011, Christiansen's squad took third and in 2006 eighth. The Trojans were ranked number one at various points in each season from 2014-2018. In 2018-2019, the program made the leap into Division I where they posted a 30-4 overall record, including both conference and Region IV titles.

For the 2005-2006, 2010-11, 2015-16, 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons’ accomplishments, Christiansen was named District Three Coach-of-the-Year, Region IV Coach-of-the-Year and Illinois Basketball Coaches Association (IBCA) Junior College Coach-of-the-Year. Following the National Championship, he was also named the NJCAA Division II National Championship Coach-of-the-Tournament, NABC Junior College Coach-of-the-Year and Spalding NJCAA Coach-of-the-Year.

A tireless worker, Christiansen’s philosophy is predicated on opportunity. “Triton College is such an amazing place. For years I have witnessed how it offers young men the opportunity to grow both as people and as players. It is my belief that if we are able to recruit talented and hard-working student-athletes who desire to maximize their potential then we owe them every chance to do so. Those efforts will be diligent to ensure that both team and player achieve their respective goals.”

He cites his greatest achievement as being the proud father of daughter Ava.
