The Triton College men's soccer team won its second straight
North Central Community College Conference (N4C) title by virtue of their 4-1 win over Milwaukee Tech Monday night at the Multi-Purpose Field.
The Trojans finished the regular season 12-2 overall and 8-2 in the N4C en route to securing the top-seed in the NJCAAÂ Region IV Division III Tournament. Triton will open the playoffs at home Saturday, Oct. 13 versus No. 8 seed Illinois Valley Community College. Kickoff is scheduled at noon. The Trojans swept the Eagles in the two regular season meetings, outscoring IVCC 12-3.
"It was funny how it worked as we clinched the No. 1 seed before winning the conference," said head coach
Piotr Sliwa. "We missed a chance to wrap up conference last week against Madison but took care of business winning our last two games. It's good to win conference but our goal is to win the region and make a run at getting to nationals."
Triton struck first 13 minutes into the match when freshman
Michael Szaflarski (Oak Lawn) found the back of the net off an assist from Elmwood Park High School graduate
Lukasz Mordarski. However, the Trojans squandered a number of chances to break the contest open and just led by the one goal at halftime.
Then the second half, it was all
Alex Mezyk for Triton. The freshman from Lane Tech recorded all three Trojan goals the final 45 minutes. Mezyk had tallies in the 48th, 65th and 75th minutes. Mordarski would assist on Mezyk's first goal while
Emmanuel Macias (Dallas Skyline) and
Jakub Knurek (York) helped on the other two Mezyk scores.
