At times it wasn't pretty, but in the end all that matters is that the Triton College women's basketball team picked up a much needed 67-35 victory Tuesday night over Olive-Harvey College at the Collins Center. For the Lady Trojans it was their first home victory of the season. Despite their overall record now being 3-8, Triton is 2-1 within District D of the Region IV. Those games are the ones which determines the teams playoff seed.
The Lady Trojans won without the services of leading scorer
Mariah Henry who suffered a minor injury early in the first quarter and the team decided to sit her out as a precaution. Triton jumped out to a 21-4 lead after one quarter as the Panthers (0-11) did not make their first field goal until three minutes into the second quarter. The game had its sloppy moments as the teams combined for 71 turnovers. However, the Lady Trojans made Olive-Harvey paid dearly for their miscues with 48 points off of 42 turnovers.
Triton had four in double-figures led by guards
Artasia Gusman and
Andrionna Harper with 13 points apeice.
Diamond Johnson scored a season-high 12 points.
Yasmin Muhammad added 10 points and 12 rebounds.
The Lady Trojans dominated the glass, out-rebounding the Panthers 58-38.
Ginani Badillo had a season-high 13 rebounds.
Jasmine Nelson grabbed 12 boards. Triton will have another big District D game as they host Morton College Thursday night. Tip is at 6 p.m.
