Marques Hatch got his first win as Triton College women's basketball head coach Nov. 4 in an 87-59 road win at Elgin Community College. The win was the first for Hatch, but most importantly the first for his Lady Trojans squad after a tough loss in the season opener against Robert Morris-Chicago JV.
Triton got off to a slow start on the defensive end and trailed the Spartans (1-1) 26-19 after one quarter. However, the Lady Trojans turned up the defense, allowing just 33 points the final three quarters. Triton (1-1) outscored Elgin 30-10 in the 2nd quarter to take a 49-36 lead at halftime. The Lady Trojans then opened the second half with a 10-0 run to build the lead up to 23 points and never looked back.
All nine Triton players dressed contributed to the scoresheet led by guard
Mariah Henry. The freshman out of Proviso West scored 25 points along with six assists and six steals.
Lizvett Herrera drained four three-pointer to finish with 18 points.
Jasmine Nelson added 15 points, six rebounds and four steals.
For the game, Triton shot 52% from the field and forced 26 Spartan turnovers.
