The Triton College men's soccer team defeated Anoka-Ramsey Community College 3-1 Wednesday in the opening round of the NJCAA District C Tournament. The Trojans now advance to the District Tournament finals, where they will take on top seeded Richland College (TX) this Saturday in Dallas, Texas. Kickoff is scheduled for noon.
This weekend's winner will advance to the NJCAA National Tournament beginning Nov. 9 in Herkimer, New York.
The Trojans defeated Anoka-Ramsey thanks in part to the strong play of Patryk Szatko (Taft) who registered two goals and an assist in the victory. Brandon Monteon (Proviso East) also scored a goal for Triton.
Goalie Jonathan Castro (Riverside-Brookfield) made four quality saves down the stretch to keep the game 2-1 before Statko's 2nd tally put the match away with a minute to go.
The Trojans are ranked No. 5 in the latest NJCAA Division III poll released Oct. 24, and remain unbeaten on the season with a 17-0-1 record.
