Chris Butz

In August of 2025, Chris Butz was named the sixth Head Coach in the history of the Triton College wrestling program. He comes to River Grove after four seasons as the men’s and women’s head wrestling coach at Morton College in Cicero.  

During his time Morton, Butz produced 22 national qualifiers and this past season coached his first NJCAA All-American to a fifth-place finish.  
 
Butz has coached at the college, high school and junior high school levels. His family’s coaching history in his hometown of Bensenville is a rich one with Butz’s grandfather being one of the founding fathers of youth sports. Butz’s father also is a long-time youth, high school and college coach. 
 
Prior to Morton College, Butz was an assistant wrestling coach at Westmont High School. From 2018 to 2020, Butz also was the head wrestling coach at Eisenhower Junior High School in Darien. and coached the running backs and tight ends for the football team at North Park University in Chicago. 
 
Butz also coached three sports at Foreman College and Career Academy in Chicago. Butz was Foreman’s head wrestling coach as well as head coach for the boys and girls track and field teams. He served as offensive coordinator for Foreman’s football team. 
 
Butz’s coaching career started at Fenton High School in 2014 as an assistant wrestling coach under Brian Hastings. 
 
Butz was a three-sport athlete at Fenton. He was a four-year varsity starter on Fenton’s wrestling team as well a state qualifier and captain for two seasons. He also was captain of Fenton’s football team, helping led the Bison to conference titles in football and wrestling. 
 
Butz went on to play football at North Park University in Chicago where he earned a bachelor’s degree in history and education.  
 
Butz currently resides in Bensenville with his wife, Cecilie, and their two children, Christopher and Madgalene.
