If anyone thought the victory for the Triton College volleyball team against Harper College on Monday (Aug. 31) was a fluke, the Trojans backed it up by sweeping Kankakee Community College in straight sets, 25-14, 25-17, 25-15 Sept. 2 at the Jorndt Athletic Complex gymnasium.
The Trojans (3-2) used a balance team effort, combined with excellent defense and sizzling serving once again as the formula to success.
As a team, Triton finished the match serving at 95 percent, with seven aces and only three service errors. The Trojans committed just 25 errors while Kankakee (4-4) made 47 errors. The team recorded 52 digs on defense and on offense struck for 30 kills.
Key contributors for Triton included:
Ulyana Sydorchuk (Leyden): eight kills, three digs and a solo block.
Natasha Mendoza (Glenn, TX): four aces and a 94.7 serving percentage
Trinity Delboccio (Romeoville): Â six kills, five blocks and two digs.
April Salgado (Plano): 12 digs, an ace, 10 perfect passes and a team-high passer rating of 2.31
Kaya Podtburg (Easton, CO): four kills, a .300 hitting percentage, and a block.
Carole Akers (Elmwood Park): two blocks and a .182 hitting percentage without any attack errors
Â
"I loved the balanced play from the whole team and we did this against a good Kankakee team that finished higher than us in the region last season," said head coach
Guy Lum.

The Trojans are not back in action until after Labor Day when they will host Carl Sandburg College, Tuesday, Sept. 8 at the Jorndt Athletic Complex gymnasium. Game time is 6 p.m.
