The Triton College volleyball team faced off for the second time in a week against Oakton College. This time on neutral ground Aug. 29 in Milwaukee. Similar to the first meeting, earlier in the week, the Trojans started the match with a strong first set win (25-9), but the Owls came roaring back to take the next three sets (15-25, 19-25, 19-25).
 
Triton (1-2) had 33 assists, with 11 aces, and accumulated a season-high 75 digs.
 
Ulyana Sydorchuk (Leyden) led the team with nine kills out of 26 attempts with a .269 hitting percentage, adding 10 digs, and an assist.
 
Setter Skyler DeSomer (Cary) added five kills with a .208 Hitting percentage, 10 digs, 11 assists, and an ace. While sophomore setter, Thea Tamondong (Niles West) had a team high 16 assists, with a pair of aces.
 
Captain Carole Akers (Elmwood) had an impressive .500 hitting percentage, with four kills, two digs, and a block.
 
"We started out strong in the first set and had moments of brilliance throughout the match," head coach Guy Lum said. "In addition to bettering our physical skills this week, we will be developing our composure to recapture that first set tenacity for the full length of a match."
 
The Trojans have a quick turnaround as they will host Harper College Aug. 31 for a 6 p.m. start at the Jorndt Athletic Complex gymnasium.
