The Triton College women's soccer team broke out for their biggest offensive performance of the season in a 5-0 victory over Daley College October 4 in Chicago.
The Trojans now 3-9, entered the contest with seven total goals scored on the season and exploded with all five tallies coming in the first half.
With the game scoreless the first 20 minutes, Triton opened their five-goal outburst on a
Brigitte Solano strike. Then
Maribel Correa scored the first of her two goals four minutes later. She would later score in the 34
th minute to give the Trojans a 4-0 lead.
Lizbeth Sanchez and
Aileen Bermudez added the other two goals for Triton.
"We played a solid game on both sides of the ball," said Triton head coach
Francisco Estrada. "We've had good ball position in many of our games this season with not much to show for it. But we were able to get a couple of quick strikes and built off that momentum and pulled away."
Stephanie Tus picked up the shutout in goal for the Trojans, recording three saves.
Despite the overall record, Triton is still in the middle of the Region 4 playoff hunt in Division II as the top 12 squads qualify for the postseason.
"This was a big win for us," Estrada said. "It was a nice morale lift for the team as we some important games to play for us to make into the playoffs." Â
