The Triton College women's soccer team recognized their sophomores and also kept their Region 4 Division II playoff hopes alive in a 2-0 win over Bryant & Stratton College (WI) Oct. 18 at the Jorndt Athletic Complex Multi-Purpose Stadium.
The Trojans sported pink jerseys for Breast Cancer Awareness Month and honored sophomores
Stephanie Tus,
Maria Monteon,
Kimberly Valdez,
Brigitte Solano,
Mia Matias and
Fatima Montano postgame.
And the group made their impact during the game as Valdez and Solano scored the two Triton goals in the first half. Then Tus made the lead stand-up in goal with the shutout to give the Trojans a much-need win.
Triton is currently holding the 12
th and final playoff spot in the region, with Truman right on their heels with each team having two games remaining in the regular season.
The Falcons appear to have an easier road with games against Harper and Oakton who are out of the playoff picture. Meanwhile, the task is a bit tougher for the Trojans with games at College of DuPage (Oct. 22) and home against Elgin (Oct. 25) to close out the regular season. COD is ranked currently 4
th, while the Spartans hold the No. 7 spot.
"This was an important win to get us points in the playoff race," said Triton head coach
Francisco Estrada. "I'm happy we were able to get a winning result for our sophomores on the night we honor them all six of them have been willing to put in their heart and soul into the program."
