The debut of
Francisco Estrada as Triton College women's soccer head coach got off to a winning note. The Trojans rallied with a pair of late second half goals in their season opening 2-1 victory Sept. 4 at Bryant & Stratton College in Milwaukee.
"It's a positive first step to the season," Estrada said. "It feels good to get the win as it builds confidence, it builds character. For us to come-from-behind and win on the road was fantastic."
Triton controlled play for the majority of the match, but had nothing show for it as the teams went into halftime scoreless. However, the Bobcats got an early tally right after the intermission to grab a 1-0 lead. But the Trojans kept pushing and finally broke through on a
Micaela Sanchez (Von Steuben) goal in the 80
th minute to tie the game. Then one minute later, Sanchez would assist on the game-winning goal by
Alyssa Arredondo (St. Laurence).
"It's a game of momentum," Estrada said. "I felt like we were breaking them down and once we were able to get that first goal, that we could get that next goal quickly and the team responded."
For the match, Triton out-shot Bryant & Stratton 5-1.
