The run at a third consecutive Region 4 championship ended for the Triton College softball team in a 7-5 loss to Madison College May 15 in Rockford.
The Trojans season concludes 42-21 after a pair a losses to the Wolfpack in the double-elimination, four-team District B tournament.
Triton lost a heartbreaking 6-4 decision in 8 innings May 13 against Madison to open the tournament. Then in a must win situation later that afternoon, the Trojans kept their title hopes alive by defeating Black Hawk College 10-8 in an elimination game.
However, the rematch with the Wolfpack was delayed a day due to rain and Triton got off to solid start with a pair of runs in the first inning. With runners at second and third,
Chayton Krueger scored on some aggressive base running, which led to a Wolfpack error that allowed
Melissa Gonzalez to score on the same play.
Errors were a huge factor in the game and the Trojans made three costly miscues as Madison scored seven unanswered runs to take a 7-2 advantage into the Triton half of the fourth.
The Trojans did their best to rally, as Gonzalez crushed a three-run homer to left to trim the deficit to 7-5 with one out in the bottom of the fifth.
Unfortunately, Triton only had one hit the rest of the way, a
Meadow Fornuto infield single in the seventh as the contest ended on a fielder's choice.
Infielder
Julianna Acevedo was the lone Trojan representative on the Region 4 District B All-Tournament team.
