Claire Stillwell gave the Triton College softball team a much needed boost in the circle, as Trojans were able to earn a split of their home doubleheader March 20 against Danville Area Community College.
After falling in the opener 14-2 to the Jaguars, Stillwell was impressive in the nightcap in blustery conditions. The sophomore cooled off a hot Danville lineup, allowing one hit and striking out six in a Triton 1-0 victory.
The Trojans (10-13) offensive could not get much going themselves. However, Triton was able to break a scoreless tie in their half of the sixth. Freshman
Sophia Loza led off the frame with a double to center and scored one batter later on a
McKenzie Johnson single. Â
For the game, Triton just had three total hits as
Chayton Krueger led off the fourth with a single that Danville washed away with a double play.
In the first game, the Trojans had four hits with both of their runs scoring off a Jaguars' errors in the first and fifth innings.
Triton will continue a busy stretch of home games hosting Sauk Valley on March 22 and Harper College on March 23. Both sets of doubleheaders will begin at 4 p.m.
