After a tough road loss at Carl Sandburg College, the Triton College volleyball team bounced back strong with a three-set sweep of Kankakee Community College by scores of 26-24, 25-19 and 25-14 Sept. 15 at the Collins Center.
The Trojans improve their record to 7-2 after the victory.
Triton prevailed in a wild first set that featured nine ties. The Trojans opened up a 20-16 lead before the Cavaliers rattled off the next five points to take a 21-20 edge. However, the big point came with the set even at 23 and Triton won a long rally following a kill from
Tanya DeLaRiva.
The Trojans went on to take the first set and carried over the momentum to control the next two sets.
DeLaRiva finished the match with 12 kills. Setter
Melissa Schmidt contributed a team-high 14 assists.
Magdalena Sroka had 20 digs,
Miriam Guler 17 digs and
Adriana Lopez was right behind with 16 digs.
Nakiya Ashford recorded four blocks for the Trojans.
"I like they way we worked as a team," said assistant coach
Rose Gronko. "No matter who we put in the game, we were cohesive as a unit and that has been the main reason for our success. Plus, playing with confidence helps. We know we have the ability to win and cannot have the players lose sight of that."
