Softball runs the table for the week

The Triton College softball team finished a perfect 6-0 week with doubleheader sweeps of Heartland Community College (March 12), Sauk Valley Community College (March 13) and Kankakee Community College (March 14).

The Trojans are now 11-5 on the young season after going 5-4 on their Florida trip.

Triton used a six-run third inning to erase an early 3-0 deficit in game one vs. Heartland. Geneva Pollman (South Elgin) hit a two-run double to give the Trojans a 5-3 lead they would not relinquish. Alyssa Stramaglia (Fenwick) went the distance on the mound as she settled down nicely after the Hawks jumped to the quick lead.

In game two with Heartland, Triton pounded out 13 hits including putting nine on the board in the fourth inning. Katlyn Cherry (Hebron, IN) had three hits and three RBI's. Pollman drove in three runs. Carissa Bombardiere (Geneva), Samantha Nelson (Taft) and Celeste Boshold (Elmwood Park) all drove in two runs in the six inning defeat of the Hawks.

The next day, the Trojans had now problem winning a pair over Sauk Valley by finals of 11-3 and 14-3. In the first game, Cherry had three more hits and 2 RBI's to lead a 12 hit attack. Nelson got the complete game victory on the mound going six innings, striking out seven SkyHawks and walking just one.

The second game was more of the same as Triton scored six runs in the first, five runs in the second and three in the third to cruise to a five inning win. Beshold and Nelson each had 3 RBI's. Alexis Maldonado (Morton) registered the win going all five innings.

The road twin bill to conclude the week at Kankakee was a wild two games as the Trojans rallied with a late run in the top of the seventh to force extra innings in a 7-4 win in eight frames in game one. Erianna Claudio (De La Salle) broke the 4-all deadlock with an RBI single to left.

The finale also went eight innings as Triton belted out 20 hits in an 11-8 win. A Nelson two-run double broke the tie. Nelson had a big day at the plate going 4-for-5 with three RBI's. Boshold and Bombardierre also had three hits and Pollman added three more RBI's.
