Not much went wrong for the Triton College women's soccer team as they played their first home playoff game in program history Oct. 31 against the College Lake County.
The No. 3 seeded Trojans dominated play from start to finish in a 6-0 blanking of the No. 6 seeded Lancers in their Region 4 Division II quarterfinal matchup.
Triton, winners of 10 in a row, improved to 12-2 overall and will have a date at South Suburban College in a Region 4 semifinal Wednesday, Nov. 3 at 3 p.m.
"The entire season has been outstanding," said assistant coach
Maciej Orlowski. "We finally got the talent to put together the type of team we wanted. It was a wonderful moment for Triton to host a playoff game. It was a wonderful moment for our team."
The Trojans did not waste any time as
Maura Wolf was credited for an own goal in the second minute to put Triton on the board.
Then in the 25
th minute
Evelyn Posada scored her fourth goal of the season from an
America Calvario assist. Five minutes later
Keiley Castellanos found the back of the net off the first of three assists by
Adrienne Carnejo.
Calvario would score in the closing seconds of the first half and once again in the 65
th minute to give the Trojans a commanding 5-0 advantage. For Calvario, the tallies were her team leading 19
th and 20
th goals of the season.
"America has been amazing all year for us," said Orlowski. "She pretty much scores in every single game."
The big lead gave Triton a chance to give many of their reserves some playing time as
Stephanie Garcia scored her first goal of the season on a penalty kick to conclude the scoring.
Now the Trojans look ahead to South Suburban. The No. 2 seeded Bulldogs (14-2) topped Moraine Valley Community College 2-0 in their quarterfinal game.
However, South Suburban was the team who handed Triton their last loss, a 2-1 decision on Sept. 18.
"I think we are better now than we were the first time we played South Suburban," said Orlowski. "The loss to them was early in the season and we learned a lot from that game. We just have to keep our energy level high and play without making any defensive mistakes."
