Volleyball Dominates Olive-Harvey Once Again

It could have been very easy for the Triton College volleyball team to be a little over-confident when they hosted Olive-Harvey College Sept. 11 at the Collins Center gymnasium.

The Trojans soundly defeated the Panthers in three sets in their season opener Aug. 31 at the South Suburban Invitational. But the Trojans started out fast en route to a 25-9, 25-13, 25-18 victory.

"We played (Olive-Harvey) our first match of the year and knew the team felt good they would perform well based on how we did the first meeting with them," said Triton head coach Thomas Malesky. "We had some anxieties tonight as we did some things we shouldn't do. Still, in the end the result was similar to the match we played them at South Suburban."

Triton (3-6) jumped out to big leads in all three sets leading 9-1 to open the first set, 17-8 in the second set and an 8-0 advantage in third set behind the serving of Leah Rettke who tallied seven straight points on serve following a side-out to open the set.

"I felt really good about my serve and was able to get into a good rhythm," Rettke said. The freshman from Riverside-Brookfield recorded nine aces along with nine digs and 12 assists.

Jordan Burks (Little Village) had seven kills for the Trojans. Frankie Annunzio (Ridgewood) added seven digs. Jenna Meyer (Leyden) finished with six aces.
