Not much went wrong for the Triton College softball team in their Region IV quarterfinal series May 8 in River Grove versus Moraine Valley Community College. The Lady Trojans had great starting pitching, played solid defense and did enough at the plate to sweep the Cyclones in two-games by the finals of 3-0 and 8-0 in five innings to move on to the
Region IV semifinals Saturday, May 11 in Freeport.
Natalie Tomasik was the story on the mound for Triton (27-23) in game one. The freshman from Ridgewood went the distance, facing one batter over the minimum to notch her 13th win of the season.
Tomasik allowed one hit over seven innings, a single in the fourth inning. She only struck out two Moraine Valley batters, but got great play from her defense as Triton committed no errors and converted a pair of double plays.
The Lady Trojans got all their offense in the third inning as 2
nd Team All-Region IV selection
Nicole Donnawell cleared the bases on a two-out double to left field to plate home
Hailey Jurasz,
Natalie Shuey and
Haley Bohne.
In game two, it was
Summer Hasan's turn to dominate on the hill for Triton. Hassan in five innings blanked the Cyclones (17-29) yielding two hits, striking out four and walking one.
The Lady Trojans jumped out to a 4-0 lead after one inning on a Shuey RBI single, a two-run double by Bohne and a
Michala Belter sacrifice fly.
Triton would add a pair in the fourth and fifth innings to end matters early via the mercy rule.
Shuey and Belter did most of the damage, each registering a pair of hits and RBI's. Triton had eight hits and once again played an errorless game on the field.
