The Triton softball team had little trouble in sweeping a doubleheader over North Central Community College Conference (N4C) rival College of DuPage April 18 in River Grove. The Lady Trojans surpassed the 20-win mark with wins of 10-2 and 5-3 in a fast-paced twin-bill that took just more than two and a half hours to complete. Triton improves to 21-18 overall and are back above .500 in the N4C with a 6-5 record.
Four Chaparral errors combined with 12 Lady Trojan hits was the recipe to a five inning game one.
Triton broke the game open with five runs in the third and four tallies in the fourth. In the third,
Haley Bohne had a bases loading clearing triple. Then
Nicole Donnawell and
Summer Hasan added RBI singles. In the fourth,
Natalie Shuey's RBI double plated home
Hailey Johansen who was a perfect 3-for-3 in game one. Bohne and Hassan each added RBI singles before the Lady Trojans final run scored on a COD error.
Natalie Tomasik picked up her eighth win of the season, surrendering two runs on three hits over five innings, striking out three and walking one.
The Chaparrals jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in game two before the Lady Trojans rallied. A two-out double in the bottom of the first by Bohne drove in Johansen to get Triton on the board. The Lady Trojans then evened things up with two runs in the second inning on a Hasan RBI double and two-out single by Johansen to bring home
Jillian Lazzara.
Hasan would give Triton the lead for good in the third on a single to left to score Donnawell. Shuey would score on a wild pitch in the fifth to give the Lady Trojans an insurance run.
Along with the damage Hasan did at the plate, she was just as effective on the mound to earn her fifth win in a complete game performance. The freshman settled down after allowing three runs on four hits in the first inning to hold the Chaparrals scoreless on just three hits the final six frames.
Triton's next home game is Tuesday, April 23 at 4:30 p.m. against Benedictine University JV.
