Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women’s Soccer Records First Ever Win over COD

The Triton College women's soccer program has been through their share of highs and lows since their inception in 2006. With the scheduled move up to NJCAA Division II in 2020, the future is definitely bright. However, the 2019 Trojans continue to improve on the field this season and picked up arguably the biggest win in program history with a dramatic 1-0 overtime victory against College of DuPage Oct. 12 at the East Campus Athletic Complex multi-purpose field.

The win was the first ever for the women's soccer program over DuPage, who for many years dominated both conference and regional play. The Trojans showed they could compete with the Chaparrals after playing them to a scoreless draw in the teams' first meeting five days earlier in Glen Ellyn.

"It wasn't easy," said Trojans head coach Piotr Sliwa. "We had our chances to put the game away early but eventually won it in overtime. It feels great to finally beat a team like COD."

Triton had several scoring chances in regulation but could not find the back of the net in the windy conditions. But the Trojans got some help from the wind on the game-winning goal by Rafaela Ramiro. The sophomore from Leyden connected on a free kick from 25-yards that beat the Chaparral goalie on the near post which sparked a massive celebration.

"I think there was a little shock when the ball went in," said Sliwa. "We started celebrating and COD didn't realize the game was over.

Triton goalkeeper Elizabeth Cannon (Northwood, OH) earned the shutout with six saves.

The Trojans conclude the regular season with a make-up game Thursday at 4 p.m. at Elgin Community College.
